MILLBRAE, CA, June 23, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ravi Saxena has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on years of professional experience, Dr. Saxena presently serves as the Vice President of Semiconductor Device Research and Development for Pacific Biosciences, where he leads and oversees a group of engineers and scientists. An experienced engineering leader, Dr. Saxena specializes in bringing to market complex technology development projects in both off-shore and on-shore manufacturing environments, working through all stages of the product life cycle from early concept, development, validation, yield improvement, volume ramps and end of life. He has made advances in the field of genome sequencing by applying his experiences in semiconductor process and design towards development of Single Molecule Real Time (SMRT) Sequencing.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Saxena led R&D projects at Intel to develop advanced patterning capability for flash memory products. He developed a new spin-on anti-reflective coating for better via fill and planarization for 65nm node and enabled 32nm node patterning with pitch doubling process. He refined his expertise at Intel on yield improvement, tool design, partner selection and foundry ramp, ultimately leading a cross-functional team of engineers to achieve _98% process yield for PXA3xx processors. He continued this innovation with conceiving and developing multiple semiconductor processes for a first of a kind biochip made in a CMOS high volume fab to be used in DNA sequencing. The chip utilized state-of-the-art technology with 193nm lithography, deep fused silica etch, high aspect ratio gap fill and planarization, wafer level packaging and a highly sensitive "single molecule" surface treatment. This culminated in the commercial release of RS Chip for Pacific Biosciences and the company's IPO.

An expert in his field, Dr. Saxena earned his Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 2000. Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning a Master's and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has contributed to more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and obtained more than 10 patents in the design, fabrication, surface treatments and packaging of devices used in single molecule sequencing, flash memory, chipset and logic devices. His many recognitions include, a Silver Medal from the National Mathematics Talent Search Competition in 1994, the Howard P. Isermann Fellowship through the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2000 and the License to Make a Difference Award for Pushing the Boundaries of Process and Equipment by Intel Corporation in 2007.

While his career has been filled with many highlights, Dr. Saxena takes the most pride in the work he has done with Pacific Biosciences where he led concept, product definition, process design and integration for Sequel-an advanced photonics system on a chip product that integrates CMOS sensors, silicon photonics, surface chemistry, micro-fluidics, bio-compatible plastics and chip assembly processes to enable cost effective long-read DNA sequencing. The technology is now the backbone for the company's flag ship products. The cornerstone of his success lay in his perseverance and the support of his family and friends. Looking ahead, Dr. Saxena intends to focus on continued innovation to bring the promise of genomics to the public and ultimately improving human health!
